Kimberly Waldron, managing director of Startup PR, joined Mark Walker to explore the shifting landscape of international fintech investment and the move towards tangible AI implementation. Following a presence at major global tech summits, Waldron noted a sense of renewed energy in emerging regions where investment and regulatory frameworks are maturing in tandem.
The expansion of the sector has seen businesses transition from early-stage ventures to established brands, necessitating a shift in how they navigate growth. Waldron explained that many firms that began at the pre-seed stage have carried their original support structures with them through Series B funding and beyond. This growth has highlighted a need for advice that addresses the specific pains of international expansion.
In terms of market direction, AI and stablecoins remain the primary subjects of industry dialogue. However, Waldron suggested that the core challenges of the sector remain constant. These include the efficient deployment of capital and the delivery of regulated tools into the hands of end users. She noted that the focus is shifting towards how regulation and innovation can work hand in hand to facilitate the internationalisation of solutions.
Looking toward the latter half of the year, the industry expectation is a move away from speculative discussion toward proven results. Waldron argued that the success of AI will be measured by its ability to deliver in specific areas such as onboarding and credit concierge services. She added that it is time for fintechs to be self-reflective, owning up to where certain trends have failed to move the dial while doubling down on the success stories that have produced genuine case studies.
